HISTORY
Allegro was formed in August of 2004 as a performing arts organization that is distinctly unique. Our mission was clear from the very beginning: we want to bring everyone in the community together in order to enjoy multi-cultural musical offerings. We are committed to reaching a diverse audience with musical offerings that range from Handel and Haydn to Celia Cruz and Paco de Lucia.
We project translations of all our vocal music offerings in both English and Spanish so that all may understand the lyrics of the pieces we sing. The Allegro Chorale has sung in English, Spanish, Latin, Polish, Russian, French and Italian, as well as several other languages. Concerts are presented in locations that are accessible to a diverse audience.
The Chorale performed with Los Palacios in April 2006, and then performed African Sanctus -- a setting of the ordinary of the mass accompanied by indigenous African music -- in the fall of 2006.
Our concerts on April 27 and 29, 2007 featured Nyela Basney at the piano in Mozart's Piano Concerto #21 in C Major, while the Allegro Chorale performed folk music settings from across the Americas. The fall 2007 concert featured a newly commissioned work for string quartet and chorus by Catalan composer Elisenda Fabregas. The Allegro Chorale performed this world premier with the renowned Cassatt Quartet.
All of Allegro's concerts are presented free for the general public.
